Maruti Suzuki Ignis concept was revealed at the 2016 Indian Auto Expo. The Ignis is Maruti Suzuki's new compact crossover, which will be pitched against the Mahindra KUV100. Suzuki has revealed the production-spec European version of the Ignis at the 2016 Paris Motor Show (September 30) and we expect that the Indian version is likely to remain similar.
It will go on sale in January 2017 in Europe and later on will be introduced in the Indian market. The Ignis is most likely to be powered by the 1.2-litre K12C petrol motor (84.3PS/ 115Nm) along with the 1.3-litre DDiS190 diesel engine (75PS/ 190Nm) in India. Speaking of the transmission options, similar to the European version, the Ignis will come with a 5-speed manual or a 5-speed automated-manual transmission (AMT) options in India. In terms of safety, since it will be retailed from the Nexa dealerships, expect dual front airbags along with ABS and EBD to come standard in the Ignis. Recently, Suzuki has announced that the Ignis will be competing in the 2017 World Car of the Year awards (WCOTY). It will be pitched against six other new rivals in a brand new category – Urban Car – in the 2017 WCOTY.
